KUCHING: Head of International Non-Government Organisation (NGO) Datuk Dr Mustapha Ahmad Marican said he is saddened by the mass shooting in New Zealand.
In a text message send to New Sarawak Tribune today, Mustapha said he was shocked by the incident because he considered New Zealand a safe place to visit and live in.
“The situation has changed now, and the New Zealand mosque committee should take safety measures to prevent such incident from happening again,” he said.
He said there should be security guards to look after the mosque and also police to patrol the area on every Friday when Muslims gather there to pray.
“There are many Malaysian students in New Zealand and if you go and pray in groups at the mosque, please be careful and very alert,” he said.
He said if anyone saw something or someone suspicious, they should leave the place immediately and report to the police, and to inform and stay in touch with the embassy, too.
