KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) started a petition yesterday to call Sarawakians to come together to support Sarawak government to defend and protect Sarawak oil and gas  (O & G) resources.

In a press conference, party secretary general, Datuk Sebastian Ting said for the past 44 years, Petronas under the Federal government has been making a lot of money from Sarawak’s oil and gas resources but it has not benefitted Sarawakians.

He said instead we are getting a mere five per cent annually and are expected to be contended with the small gestures.

Ting said he believed that the Petronas court application to declare its exclusive ownership over Sarawak’s oil and gas resources is for the purpose to frustrate Sarawak from taking full control over its oil and gas resources on July 1.

He added that Sarawak is rich with oil and gas resources but still poor because we do not receive our fair share of wealth over the years.

Ting said it is time for us, Sarawakians, to stop Petronas from continuing taking our oil and gas resources.

“Cukuplah Petronas, you had your time in taking our wealth and resources for 44 years to grow into a Fortune Global 500’s largest corporations in the world.”

The Malaysia Agreement 1963, Ting pointed out, the Sarawak (Alteration of Boundaries) Order in Council 1954, the Federal Constitution and the Sarawak Constitution are all supporting our claim over our sovereignty in oil resources found in our Sarawak territorial waters.

He said SUPP promises to fight to the end for the return of our rights and the ownership of our oil and gas and appeal to all Sarawakians to join with us in this journey of defending and protecting our oil and gas ownership.
