KOTA SAMARAHAN: A patient, and four others, including the ambulance driver, narrowly escaped serious harm after the ambulance was rear-ended by a lorry along Jalan Kota Samarahan-Sadong Jaya here.
Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said all were unharmed during the 10.40am incident.
He said the ambulance was on its way to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) here from Sarikei.
“The ambulance had its sirens and emergency lights on during the journey.
“Arriving at a bend, the ambulance driver proceeded to slow down as there was another car in front, moving slowly.
“However, the ambulance was suddenly struck from behind by a lorry driven by a 34-year-old man,” he said on Tuesday (March 8).
Supt Alexson said the patient and two passengers, including a family member, and a nurse were transferred to an ambulance from Semera Asajaya Clinic at the accident site to be taken to SGH.
He added that the ambulance suffered damage to the boot, rear door and its rear windshield was smashed.
“The case is being investigated under Section 43 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.”
