KUCHING: A road stretch at Mile 6 Jalan Penrissen leading to the city centre was closed yesterday following an oil spill.

A spokesman from State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that firefighters were deployed to the scene after a report was received that engine oil had leaked from a heavy machinery onto the road at about 2pm.

The incident occurred 500 metres from the Mile 6 intersection heading to the city centre. No one was injured in the spillage; however, oil was spilt across the road.

Upon arrival, firefighters from Batu Lintang fire station then spread sand supplied by a contractor of the Pan Borneo Highway project to soak up the oil spill.

The affected road stretch covered in sand was temporarily closed to ensure the safety of road users which resulted in a traffic jam in the area.
