KUCHING: The Old Josephians’ Association (OJA) Kuching will organise the 7th edition of the ‘Ora Et Labora’ Run, themed ‘Once a Josephian, Always a Josephian!’ on Oct 5.
The event will kick off at 6 am from the premises of SMK St Joseph here.
According to an OJA statement, the run aims to provide an opportunity for a reunion where ex-students can gather, share, and serve their alma mater.
OJA president Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is a Deputy Premier, said the past edition of the event had attracted more than 1,200 runners, and this time around the association is aiming for more than 1,400 runners.
“OJA has been organising numerous activities to unite the present and past students of the St Joseph’s Family of Schools, which includes SMK St Joseph, St Joseph’s Private School, and St Joseph’s International School. Many have supported the run event in past editions, and it has been very successful.
“This is to provide an opportunity to raise funds for school extra-curricular activities and for the students to engage in simple business trials. With all three schools involved as a team, it is hoped that a solid network and a closer bond can be forged,” he said in a statement.
Additionally, the school is seeking to raise RM2,000,000 for Phase 1 of the SMK St. Joseph’s Masterplan, which focuses on enhancing facilities to encourage effective learning and collaboration among the Josephians.
Dr Sim urged Josephians, alumni, and corporate bodies to contribute generously to this crucial upgrading project.
The Ora Et Labora Run features three categories: the 1.4km Walk for families and children, the 5km Fun Run, and the 10km Race. All participants will receive finisher medals, and the top 10 finishers in the 10km Race will receive additional cash prizes.
Registration fees are RM55 per person for the 1.4km Walk and 5km Fun Run, and RM65 for the 10km Race. Each registered runner will receive a running T-shirt and a running bib.
