KUCHING: The Congress of Union of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) Sarawak has appointed Omar Bahrein Unin as president.
He takes over from outgoing president Ahmad Malie who retired from the public service on May 21.
Ahmad has served as Cuepacs Sarawak president for the past ten years.
In his farewell press conference on Sunday, Ahmad hoped that Cuepacs Sarawak would continue to fight for the advancement and welfare of civil servants in the state.
Meanwhile, Omar assured that the union would focus on the welfare of civil servants in Sarawak.
“We will maintain constructive partnerships with all government sectors, particularly other unions and employers, and we will enhance links with the state government.
“We will develop links with employers, notably ministries and other departments, to discuss on issues impacting the civil servants,” he said.
He also encouraged civil servants who have not yet joined the trade union to do so in order to strengthen the voice of public sector employees.
