KUCHING: The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) throughout Sarawak must be well prepared for all eventualities.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also SDMC chairman, said SDMC secretariat has been operational 24 hours a day since early this month with the aim of monitoring all developments across Sarawak due to the monsoon season.
“It involves not only floods, but also landslides and so on. Last week, I happened to be around where one of the roads in my area collapsed; very lucky nobody was hurt.
“So, we are monitoring. Committees at the district and state levels have coordinated together with the relevant departments. The number of officers involved is also ready, including the hardware,” he told the press after the launch of the English-Iban translation dictionary at Institute of Teachers Education Batu Lintang Campus here today.
Uggah also advised those who are affected by floods to relocate if instructed.
“If directed to relocate, please do so as it is for their own safety.
“At the Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS), it is well prepared with food, medical facilities and social welfare to help those affected by flood,” he added.
