LUNDU: An elderly Indonesian woman died while four others were injured after the four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle they were travelling in crashed by the roadside at Jalan Sempadi Felda 1 here yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Upik Rokaya, 78, from Pontianak, Indonesia. She died in an ambulance on the way to Lundu Hospital.
The four other victims, including the 4WD driver, were also taken to the same hospital for treatment.
The victims were travelling along the road at around 9.00am when their 4WD suddenly went out of control and skidded off the road before landing in the bushes.
A spokesman for the State Fire and Rescue Department said nine personnel in a fire engine and EMRS vehicle were dispatched to the scene after they received an emergency call at 9.33am.
He said the victims were carried out of the vehicle by the firefighters before attending to their injuries and sending them to the hospital.
Meanwhile, it was understood that a family member has claimed the remains of Upik Rokaya from the hospital and taken to their hometown for burial.
