MIRI: A fatal accident near Rumah Panjang Maxwell, Simpang Batu Niah, along Jalan Pan Borneo yesterday evening (Aug 30) claimed the life of one person and left three others injured.
The accident happened at 6.12pm when a Toyota Hilux, carrying three passengers and travelling from Miri to Bintulu, attempted a U-turn and collided with a 10-tonne truck coming from the opposite direction.
Upon arrival, firefighters found that two victims had already been rescued by bystanders and taken to the hospital.
Both victims were conscious and firefighters used rescue tools to extricate the third victim who was trapped in the wreckage.
The victim, identified as 31-year-old Body Dungau Thomas, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. The truck driver escaped the accident unharmed.
The deceased was later handed over to the police for further action.
