KUCHING: A 58-year old woman in Sibu becomes the latest Covid-19 fatality case in Sarawak, bringing the total number of deaths to 95.
Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the victim, identified as Case 8,033, went to seek treatment at Sibu Hospital after showing symptoms of fever, cough, loss sense of smell and weak body.
“The case underwent rT-PCR test and was tested positive on Feb 21.
“Her health condition deteriorated and she was pronounced dead on March 17.
“The case had no comorbidities,” Uggah said in a daily Covid-19 press conference here today (March 18).
Meanwhile, Sarawak registered a record-high 303 positive cases on Thursday, bringing the state’s tally to 13,413.
Serian accounted for 101 of the new cases, consisting of 99 cases reported at the Semuja Immigration detention depot and two detected through ACD; Bintulu (57), Sibu (47), Miri (27), Meradong (13), Kapit (10), Julau (nine), Kuching and Sarikei – eight each, Sri Aman (six), Tanjung Manis (five), Bukit Mabong (four), Sebauh (two), while Bau, Belaga, Kanowit, Samarahan, Selangau and Subis recorded one case each.
“From the total cases, 277 comprised of individuals who had been instructed to undergo quarantine at designated quarantine centres.
“In short, 153 cases were individuals screened after having contact to positive cases, 123 were individuals linked to active clusters, 20 were individuals screened in health facilities, six symptomatic individuals, and one Import B case involving an individual who had returned from other state,” Uggah explained.
He also said 206 patients had recovered and discharged from hospitals on Thursday – 51 from Sibu Hospital, 35 from Miri Hospital, 28 from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), 24 from Kapit Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC), 21 from Bintulu Hospital, 19 from Sarikei Hospital, 15 from Betong PKRC, eight from Sri Aman PKRC, four from Serian PKRC and one from Mukah PKRC.
“This brings the total number of recovered and discharged cases to 10,838 or 80.80 percent of total Covid-19 cases in Sarawak,” he pointed out.
He added that there were 2,433 individuals still undergoing treatment at hospital isolation wards in the state – 701 in Sibu Hospital and PKRC, Miri Hospital and PKRC (449), Bintulu Hospital and PKRC (340), SGH and Kuching PKRC (264), Kapit Hospital and PKRC (201), Sarikei Hospital and PKRC (161), Betong Hospital and PKRC (127), Semuja Immigration Depo PKRC in Serian (99), Serian PKRC (34), Sri Aman Hospital and PKRC (30), Mukah PKRC (22), Limbang Hospital (three) and Lawas PKRC (two).
“Today (Thursday), 304 new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases have been reported and two PUIs are still awaiting laboratory results,” he said.
