KUCHING: Sarawak recorded one new positive Covid-19 case in Kuching on Saturday, bringing the total number of positive cases in the state thus far to 698.

In a statement on Saturday, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) informed that this was categorised as a local transmission case, involving a local woman aged 48.

“The case was detected through a reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (rT-PCR) swab test on August 28 which was done for the purpose of pre-surgical screening.

“The laboratory test result found that the case’s nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swabs were positive for Covid-19 on August 29,” they said, adding that the case had shown signs and symptoms starting August 14.

The committee said that further investigation and contact tracing for this case were actively being conducted.

They said the case was admitted to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) on August 29.

According to SDMC, no new cases had recovered and been discharged from hospitals on Saturday, with the total number of recovered and discharged cases remaining at 662 or 94.84 percent.

“Two new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases were reported and no PUIs are awaiting laboratory test results,” they said.

As of Saturday, there was one remaining active cluster in the state, namely the Alam Cluster involving seven cases.

The committee said that 57 persons-under-surveillance (PUS) were checked into hotels on Saturday to undergo quarantine, bringing the total number of PUS at 14 hotels to 820, while 22,786 PUS had completed their quarantine period.

They reported that the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) issued ten compound notices for non-compliance with the standard operating procedure (SOP) — five in Kuching, three in Betong, and two in Sarikei.

On Ops Benteng, SDMC said there were six roadblocks in five districts on Saturday, namely two in Lundu and one each in Bau, Serian, Sri Aman, and Lubok Antu. “From these six roadblocks, a total of 1,241 vehicles were checked.”
