KUCHING: One new Covid-19 positive case was recorded in Kota Samarahan on Monday (Oct 12), bringing the total number of positive cases in the state to 752.
Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement said the new case (case 752) involved a local man who worked as a supervisor at a construction company in Kuching. He had travelled to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah on Sept 20 and returned to Sarawak via Kuching International Airport (KIA) on Oct 1.
When arriving at KIA, he underwent a rT-PCR test and was ordered to undergo the 14-day quarantine at home. On Oct 1, the Covid-19 test result was negative.
On Oct 9, which was the tenth day of the quarantine, he underwent another rT-PCR test and the test result by Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) had confirmed to be positive for Covid-19.
SDMC said the case had showed no signs and symptoms of the disease and has been admitted to SGH for further treatment, adding that the case was infected in Sabah.
Meanwhile, no new cluster was reported while two clusters remained active — the Bah Arnab Cluster in Kuching with four positive case reported and the Putra Cluster in Bintulu.
On the Bah Arnab Cluster, 40 persons have been screened, 32 close contacts were found negative and four persons are still awaiting results.
While for the Putra Cluster, there is an increase of one positive case. This case was detected and recorded in Shah Alam, Selangor. This makes the total of positive cases involving this cluster to six people including the index case.
On this cluster, a total of 113 persons have been screened, 48 close contacts were found negative and 59 persons are still awaiting results.
SDMC also said there are three new recoveries and discharged cases from SGH, bringing the total number of recoveries and discharged cases to 688 or 91.49 percent of the total cases.
The committee said the total cases that are still receiving treatment are 45 cases — out of these, 26 cases are being treated at SGH, eight cases in Miri Hospital, seven at Bintulu Hospital and four at Sibu Hospital.
There is no Covid-19 case being treated at the intensive care unit (ICU).
SDMC said there were 13 new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases reported and two PUIs are still awaiting laboratory test results.
On the number of persons-under surveillance (PUS), 298 have been checked into designated hotels to undergo quarantine, bringing the total number of PUS at 19 hotels to 1,786 individuals.
To date, 25,888 PUS have completed their quarantine period.
