KUCHING: After many months of being cluster-free, a new one dubbed the Kampung Semeba Cluster has emerged in the state on Wednesday (Feb 9).
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily update, said the community cluster involves a private residence located in Kampung Semeba here.
“The index case, Case 253,021, was detected through symptomatic individual screening at a health facility on Feb 5. The case also has a history of returning from Kuala Lumpur on Jan 31,” said the committee.
SDMC said the infection is believed to have originated from social interaction during the Chinese New Year celebration on Feb 1.
“A total of 139 people have been screened, of which 17 including the index case were found positive and 122 were negative,” it said.
The committee added that the cases were being isolated and treated at Sarawak General Hospital and the Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre, as well as the COVID-19 Assessment Centre here.
