KUCHING: A new cluster of Covid-19 cases has been detected here.
According to State Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, the cluster, dubbed the Satok Market Cluster, was declared after four of its traders had tested positive for Covid-19.
“On July 25 and 26, an active screening of Covid-19 was conducted at Satok Market, Kuching involving a total of 229 people.
“Of the total screened, four people had tested positive for the Covid-19 rT-PCR (reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction) test on July 27. All of the cases did not show any signs and symptoms,” he said during a press conference here yesterday.
He added that the index of cases to the cluster and contacts related to the cases are still under investigation.
Earlier, Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also reported the emergence of two new Covid-19 clusters with one of them being the Satok Market Cluster here in Sarawak.
Uggah stated that yesterday, a total of 15 new cases had been reported involving active clusters that are still active and four cases involving the new cluster.
“This makes the number of clusters that are still active in Sarawak to 10 clusters where nine clusters are reported in Kuching and one in Bintulu,” he said.
The active clusters include the Kuching Engineering Cluster with an addition of one case, Mambong Cluster (one), Sentosa Cluster (nine), Melbourne PUI Cluster (one), Satok Market Cluster (four), and no addition to the Medical Centre Cluster, Jupiter Cluster, Stutong Market Cluster, Jetty Cluster and Kuching Construction Company Cluster respectively.
