TANJUNG MANIS: One person survived while two are missing after the ship Laning Drat sank in Batang Serdeng, early Thursday (Feb 10).

According to a statement from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), they were informed of the incident at about 9am.

It was understood that the Laning Drat was carrying a cargo of excavators at the time of its sinking.

“One survivor, believed to be the skipper, was found by an eyewitness at about 8.30am,” it said.

The operation centre explained that the eyewitness, who was on his way to Sarikei Hospital by river, managed to save the skipper.

Search and rescue effort has been intensified, with Bomba working together with other agencies.
