KANOWIT: A woman sustained severe injuries while two men sustained minor injuries after they were involved in an accident near Kampung Rasan, Machan town yesterday evening.
The accident happened around 4.35pm when a pickup truck transporting a load of oil palm fruits, had swerved off the road and fell into a 16-foot deep ravine.
A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Kanowit station were promptly despatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call.
It is understood that a total of eight people including the three victims, were in the vehicle and they had been rescued by the passers-by.
One of them was severely injured and two others sustained minor injuries. However, the extent of their injuries were not made known.
The injured victims were later taken to Machan health clinic for further treatment.
Meanwhile, the remaining victims were left unharmed in the accident.
The team only carried out monitoring to ensure that the situation was deemed safe before departing back to their station at 5.35pm.
