KUCHING: A local man was arrested for alleged involvement in illegal online gambling activities.

The 33-year-old suspect, a suspected illegal lottery agent from Jalan Jambusan, Bau was arrested by a team of CID from the Bau district police headquarters at a hawker area in Bau at 4pm on Saturday.

The district police chief DSP Poge Nyaon said police also seized a mobile phone and cash.

According to Poge, the suspect had no prior criminal record and that the case is being investigated under Section 4A (a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which carry a fine not less than RM20,000 and not more than RM 200,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years.

Separately, a man sustained minor injuries after he was involved in an accident at Jalan Tun Jugah flyover.

Witnesses said that the victim in 40s managed to exit the vehicle that had turned turtle with the assistance of passers-by.

It is believed that the driver had lost control of his vehicle as he was heading down the flyover before crashing into the road divider.
