KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg reminded Sarawakians that unity in the state should be maintained and defended by themselves.

He said ‘cubit kanan kiri sakit, cubit kiri kanan sakit’ which means ‘you touch one, you touch all’ describes the unity between races of different backgrounds and different religious beliefs in Sarawak.

“We have a concept, if you touch one race, it means you touch all races. This means that we are defending our community for the sake of the future of Sarawak,” he said in his speech during the Gawai Dayak 2023 celebration at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) last night (June 7).

He said the Sarawak government has acknowledged that the Dayak community’s vast plots of land t should be monetised through technology.

“We need the technology to generate profit through this available land. And we also emphasis education because coupled with knowledge, it can change a person’s future.

“We were blessed with so many assets, including land, but we need to use knowledge to increase our assets,” he said.

Abang Johari congratulated the Dayak community for being able to work with the various communities.

“Under the guidance of the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, Sarawak is peaceful and prosperous and even the Sarawak government can focus on the development of Sarawak.

“We can also join hands with the unity government to serve the people throughout the country, especially Sarawak,” he added.
