KUCHING: The Sarawak Contingent’s Criminal Investigation Department (CCID) recently concluded Op Dadu Mega, resulting in the apprehension of 97 individuals, comprising 75 men and 22 women.
Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata said the operation, which ran from May 25 to 26, involved 73 raids targeting online gambling, unlicensed public lotteries and cock fighting.
“Authorities also seized RM66,591 in cash and 36 smartphones, linked to the illicit activities.
“The arrested individuals are being investigated under Section 4B(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953. If convicted, they could face fines ranging from RM10,000 to RM100,000 for each gambling machine seized, along with a potential prison sentence of up to five years.
“Additionally, offences under Section 4A(a) of the same Act carry fines between RM20,000 and RM200,000, plus up to five years in prison,” he said.
Comm Mancha added that cockfighting-related offences are being handled under Section 73(1)(g) of the Veterinary Public Health Ordinance 1999.
Convictions for these offences can result in fines up to RM2,000, imprisonment for up to six months, or both.
