BINTULU: Narcotics police here arrested a foreign man suspected to be a drug dealer for possessing drugs believed to be syabu on yesterday (Feb 27).

Bintulu district police chief Supt Bartholomew Umpit said the arrest was part of the operation codenamed ‘Op Tapis’ carried out in Kampung Sinong.

The 28-year-old suspect was detained for inspections as he was believed to be involved in distributing and abusing drugs.

A total of 10 straw tubes and two plastic packets containing crystalline substance believed to be syabu weighing 12.74g, were found inside a cigarette box in his possession.

“Investigation found that the drugs can be distributed to some 150 users around the city and plantations.

“The suspect who was tested positive for drugs, will be investigated under Section 39A (1) and Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.

In addition, he will also be investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963 for not having a valid travel document.

Bartholomew advised the public to continue channelling any information related to drugs activities to Bintulu police at 086-318304.
