LUNDU: Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian assured that Opar could be another tourist attraction soon after the Pan Borneo project in the area is fully completed.
He said that it was timely as the country was already in the endemic phase.
“When I arrived here, I realised that many parts of the Pan Borneo projects were hot to trot. If everything was complete, it would definitely benefit the locals from various aspects including tourism and so on.
“Therefore, let’s implement all the manifestos that were promised in the last election,” he said.
He said this while speaking at the Majlis Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri at Kampung Temaga Melayu here on Sunday (May 29).
He added that the government also has a new law to be implemented by the end of this year, namely the Sovereign Fund for the benefit of Sarawak by 2030.
“In Norway, for example, they save RM600,000, but after 26 years, the amount has grown to 1.35 trillion US dollars.
“As such, we must work together. We will not be able to achieve our main goal if we compete.
“When Sarawak is prosperous, the people benefit,” he said.
At the same time, Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang took the opportunity to present allocations to the local community.
He said all relevant parties will receive the funds, including mosques, committees, women’s bureaus, youths and others.
“Each village committee will receive an allocation of RM6,000. Meanwhile, RM5,000 will be distributed to mosques and RM3,000 for the women’s bureaus.
“However, the youths were not given because no bank accounts were submitted. Therefore, I would like to emphasise that it is important to have an account to ensure that the granting process can be done smoothly.
“However, youths can still send applications to us for any assistance to implement relevant programmes in the future,” Billy said.
