KUCHING: The tradition of ‘open houses’ in Sarawak must continue and be brought down to the future generations.

Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said the open house tradition during festive occasions which has been practised since long ago strengthened the unity among the people of different races and religions.

“I am very happy that for us in Sarawak during this Chinese New Year, there are a lot of open houses, and we celebrate it with everybody,” he said at his open house here yesterday.

He said the open house concept was started by his father 30 years ago, adding that he maintained the tradition till today.

“It is shows that in Sarawak, despite the traffic jam, rain or shine, it is not so much of the food and to collect angpows, but people come together.

“We look forward to continue this tradition, and we must ensure our future generation will continue to practice this tradition,” he said.
