MIRI: The Head of State has praised the openness spirit of Orang Ulu community in embracing development opportunities.

In his message during Orang Ulu National Association (OUNA) dinner gathering at a leading hotel here on Saturday night, Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud added, “Their spirit of openness in embracing development has created more opportunities. Speedy development can be achieved when the community shows greater openness.”

He said the success of the community in various fields had set a good example for other races in Sarawak to emulate.

Taib also called on the Orang Ulu to strengthen their unity with other races.

Earlier, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg reiterated that the state government would develop Sarawak with its own mould.

Abang Johari’s text-of-speech was read by Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin.

“Sarawak will not totally depend on the national policy because Sarawakians have the talent to make it a developed state by 2030,” he said.

Those thrusts were modern farming; tourism and services; infrastructure development including developing 5G connectivity; and education.

Abang Johari added political stability would allow the state to focus on planning and implementing the plans in the interests of the people.
