MIRI: Ops Harapan, a cr ime prevent ion programme was launched officially nationwide yesterday. In Miri, Permyjaya area has been selected as the pilot location for the programme here. More than 60 police personnel including General Operations Force (GOF) have been roped in to assist the police patrols.
This was disclosed by Miri Crime Prevent ion and Community Safety (CPCS) chief, DSP Rosley Hobden to the local media yesterday afternoon. Ros ley informed that Ops Harapan is another initiative by the police in protecting and safeguarding the public from crime.
“It will also help to improve public perception by increasing police presence in the area,” he stressed, adding that the operation would focus on foot patrols for better interaction between the police and the community.
Permyjaya, he explained, was chosen based on its density and higher recording on the crime index. “Permyjaya has recorded high crime index for house break-ins and vehicle thefts activities, and that is why the area was selected for the programme,” he said. The Ops Harapan will continue until the end of this July.
