KUCHING: The Sarawak Road Transport Department’s (JPJ) Hari Raya Aidilfitri enforcement operation will focus on inspecting motorcycles to reduce accidents.
Its director Norizan Jili said based on the department’s accident statistics last year, the majority of the accidents involved motorcycles.
“Therefore, we will focus more (enforcement and inspection) on motorcycles throughout Sarawak this year.
“Our integrated operation will be held at 52 identified hotspots in the state,” he said after leading a surprise JPJ inspection at Kuching Sentral Bus Terminal this morning.
Meanwhile, Sarawak JPJ in a statement, said that to achieve the target of reducing the rate of accidents and fatal cases involving motorcycle riders and pillion riders, the department will collaborate with the police, National Anti-Drug Agency (NADA), Immigration Department and other agencies to implement integrated enforcement.
It said authorities will confiscate motorcycles for offences such as not having a driving licence, having expired driving licence and insurance, and motorcycle modifications.
The department also asked the public to be their eyes and ears by reporting traffic offences throughout the Hari Raya Aidilfitri operation using the MyJPJ platform.
