‘Ops Lejang’ nets two for drug abuse; 31 traffic tickets issued

SERIAN: Two motorists were arrested after testing positive for drugs in an operation codenamed ‘Ops Lejang’ last night (Feb 21).

Eighteen policemen conducted the two-hour operation around Baki and Tarat markets to detect and prevent cases of vehicle thefts in addition to preventing illegal racing activities.

Serian police chief DSP Aswandy Anis said the two men have been instructed to undergo urine tests and they tested positive for methamphetamine.

“Both were arrested under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which provides for a fine or a jail sentence, upon conviction,” he said.

In addition, a total of 31 traffic summonses were issued for various offences such as driving with licence and modifying their vehicles.

Aswandy said 52 individuals, 43 motorcycles and two cars were inspected during the operation.
