KUCHING: Four men here were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
They were arrested during a police operation codenamed ‘Ops Mabuk’ last Saturday (Apr 23).
According to the Kuching police headquarters (IPD), the police team held the four at Jalan Tabuan during the operation that started at 11pm (Saturday) until 4.30am early this morning.
A total of 12 personnel from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division and the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division took part in the operation led by Insp Ngang Kalimpot.
Initially, the team had detained five men aged between 21 and 32, who were believed to be driving under the influence of alcohol.
All of them were then taken to the Kuching IPD to undergo breath analyser tests.
Results found that four of them had alcohol content in their body exceeding the allowable limit while the other was negative and freed.
They will be investigated under Section 45A (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which provides for a fine up to RM30,000 or a jail term of up to five years and licence disqualification for up to five years, if convicted.
In addition, the team also issued a total of 49 traffic summonses for various traffic offences after inspecting 124 people in 111 vehicles.
