KOTA SAMARAHAN: Three motorists were arrested for allegedly driving their vehicles while under the influence of alcohol last week.
The operation codenamed ‘Ops Mabuk’, involving 17 personnel from Kota Samarahan traffic police division, Road Transport Department (JPJ) and National Anti-Drug Agency (NADA), was held along the Kota Samarahan Expressway last Friday (Mar 15).
According to the Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, the team had stopped three motorists for preliminary tests to detect alcohol content in their system.
Results found that all three had tested positive for alcohol content that exceeded the allowable limit.
As a result, the drivers were arrested under Section 45A (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of alcohol, which carries up to RM10,000 fine or up to five years imprisonment and a potential five-year licence disqualification, upon conviction.
The department reminds all road users to obey the laws and regulations of the road, particularly with regard to the issue of driving under the influence.
Strict and uncompromising actions will be taken against those found manoeuvring a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
The department also highlighted its commitment to conduct such operations from time to time to crack down on drink driving, aiming to uphold the safety of both the drivers themselves and other road users.
