MIRI: The Sarawak Arts Council (MSS) is providing grants worth RM30 million allocated by the State government annually to musicians and other arts and crafts practitioners in the creative and arts industry in the state.
“As such, the traditional Orang Ulu sape musical instrument musicians can also apply for the grants as the objective is to promote the arts in Sarawak,” said MSS acting chief executive officer Awang Putrayusrie on Thursday.
He was speaking at the Sape’ Times Online Competition 2021 prize-giving ceremony here.
The virtual competition, held from Nov 1 to Dec 23, was organised by the Uma Akeh Village Youth Club (Kebuma) in collaboration with the Miri Sape’ Movement.
Meanwhile, also present was the political secretary to Chief Minister Charles Balan Seling who handed the cash prize money to the winners.
Eighteen contestants competed in the competition and the first prize winner received RM1, 000, followed by RM500 to the second place winner and RM300 to the third prize winner. Five consolation prize winners received RM150 cash each.
