KUCHING: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a bad weather warning for Sarawak.
Kuching, Serian, Samarahan and Sri Aman have been issued an ‘orange’ weather alert with continuous heavy rain. However, a sunny and dry weather with a maximum temperature of 32 degree Celsius is forecasted for Friday (Jan 15).
Betong, Sarikei, Sibu and Mukah have been issued with a ‘yellow’ weather alert with heavy rain while Kapit, Miri, Limbang and Bintulu will be experiencing continuous rain until Jan 19.
A media statement, which was released today (Jan 13), said that there will be strong winds at several states including coastal areas of Sarawak and Sabah.
“There will be strong north-easterly winds of more than 60 km/h (kilometre per hour) with wave height exceeding 4.5 metres that is expected to occur in the state waters of Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, east of Johor and Sarawak in that period.
“West of Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan will also experience the same strong north-easterly winds with wave height exceeding 3.5 metres,” it said.
It also said this condition may pose a risk of overflow of seawater at coastal and estuary areas in the regions involved.
