KUALA LUMPUR: Orkim Sdn Bhd (Orkim) today announced that it has entered into a long-term charter agreement with Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd and Shell Timur Sdn Bhd for the delivery of two new oil tankers.

This pivotal partnership marks a significant development in Malaysia’s maritime and energy sectors, further underscoring Orkim’s commitment to enhancing the nation’s fuel distribution and logistics infrastructure.

Following the signing of agreement between both parties, Captain Cheah Sin Bi, Chief Executive Officer of Orkim, said the award underscores their unwavering commitment to delivering dependable maritime logistics solutions and reaffirms our enduring 15-year partnership with Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd and Shell Timur Sdn Bhd, collaborating on the transportation and distribution of Clean Petroleum Products (CPP) across Malaysia and Singapore.

He said the agreement also marks a significant advancement for Orkim, further expanding our fleet, which is currently the largest in the country for CPP transportation.

“The new tankers are scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2026. They will be essential in transporting Shell’s CPP across Peninsular and East Malaysia. These vessels will significantly enhance our fleet’s capabilities and reinforce our commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship within the sector.

“The vessels will be built with advanced fuel-efficient technologies and will include Ballast Water Treatment Systems which will protect marine ecosystems, further advancing Shell Malaysia’s sustainability initiatives,” he said.

Meanwhile, Managing Director of Shell Malaysia Downstream Shairan Huzani Husain, who inked the agreement on behalf of Shell Malaysia said that the agreement highlights Shell’s dedication to fostering local industry growth.

“This partnership represents a major   milestone in our commitment to supporting and advancing local contractors through a collaborative, long-term strategy. At Shell, we are excited to partner with Orkim and believe this collaboration will encourage greater involvement from local industry players, fostering initiatives that will further develop their capabilities,” he said.

At the same time,  Chairman of Orkim and Chief Executive Officer of Ekuiti Nasional Berhad (Ekuinas) Datuk Syed Yasir Arafat Syed Abd Kadir said the  landmark agreement with Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd and Shell Timur Sdn Bhd is significant to Orkim’s growth trajectory.
