KUCHING: The ‘Otakyun!’ anime, comics and games (ACG) convention is returning this October 22 and 23.
The event is set to take place at Boulevard Shopping Mall from 10am to 7pm and is free for all to attend.
Since its debut in 2014, the convention has brought thousands of like-minded enthusiasts together to share and spread the love for anime, manga, video games and Japanese culture.
It is put together by a voluntary group known as Anime Gathering team, which has been organising ACG events here since 2007.
It is also one of the events approved to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Look East Policy by the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia.
This year, the sixth edition is a scaled-down or mini version called Chibi (pronounced as chee-bee, a Japanese word for ‘small and cute’) Otakyun! 2022 and many activities are lined up during the two-day event.
The major highlight would be a special guest appearance by cosplayer Nessarose, who will be talking about ‘Career in Cosplay and Live Streaming’ as well as conducting meet-and-greet sessions with her fans.
In addition, Kendylife, a popular doodle artist and illustrator from Sabah, will also make an appearance.
Two competitions will be happening, namely Coswalk Competition on October 22 and Open Cosplay Competition on October 23.
There is also a trading card game (TCG) tournament organised by one of the event’s exclusive sponsors Buddy Connection, as well as doodle art contest and children’s colouring contest.
Besides that, visitors to the convention will also stand a chance to participate in lucky draws and giveaways on stage, and will also be able to visit various booths by artists and cosplayers, exhibitions of merchandise and hobby items, and more.
Also exclusive to the event is the Chibi Otakyun! 2022 and LUMOS Projector giveaway, where one lucky winner gets to win one unit of LUMOS Ray Projector, which offers a cinematic home viewing.
