KUCHING: Sarawak wants to progress in all aspects of life like the rest of the world and so headlong we must go for English, said political analyst Datuk Peter Minos.

Minos asserted that Sarawak was doing it right by using both English and Bahasa Malaysia (BM) in official communication.

“That is the best way. The wisest way.

“The Malaya’s way is no good but if that is what they want, so be it.

“No point in arguing with them,” he said to New Sarawak Tribune today.

Minos noted that no matter what the anti-English groups in the Peninsula do, Sarawak must not follow and not listen to them.

He said that he cannot understand why some big individuals in Malaya are dead against English, knowing fully well that English is an extremely vital global language of commerce and industry, ideas and knowledge, computers and information technology, arts and culture, finance and banking as well as law and diplomacy among other things.

He described the proposed policy of punitive action against federal civil servants for using English as uncalled for.

“There is something wrong about the anti-English groups in Malaya. To me, they are silly and backward or even rather stupid in their thinking.

“Or maybe too obsessed with BM or pretend to be, to please themselves or to ingratiate   their political masters.

“If they want to retrogress and go backward, let them be for nothing we can do about these silly-thinking guys,” he said.

Minos pointed out that the people in Sarawak have none of the Peninsula ways.

He said the state must use English all the way.

“No matter what those idiotic Malayan groups say or do,” he added.
