LAWAS: The participation of local Sarawak companies such as Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) in the development of big projects in Indonesia is a recognition of the expertise of local Sarawakians.
The Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) in a news report quoted Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan as saying that he had visited Indonesia to finalise Sarawak’s involvement through SEB in the development of hydroelectricity in Kalimantan, soon-to-be the new capital of Indonesia.
“They (Indonesia) have invited SEB to assist in the production of hydroelectricity.
“We know Indonesia will move its capital to Kalimantan. So, the development there will have an impact on us.
“It will also benefit us, especially in terms of border trade, and we can plan development in the border areas,” he said.
Awang Tengah said this while speaking at the socio-economic lab organised by the Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA) at Hotel Seri Malaysia, Lawas, recently.
On the socio-economic lab, RECODA chief executive officer Ismawi Ismuni said the laboratory was in line with the strategy to make Sarawak a developed state by 2030.
“The Sarawak government has outlined a very clear direction and set aside a huge allocation to double Sarawak’s economy to become a developed and high-income state by 2030,” he said.
