KUCHING: Residents staying at Tabuan Heights expressed their strong protest against the construction of the telecommunication tower adjacent to a Sesco Sub Station at Lorong Song 3.
Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Public Complaints Bureau chief Wilfred Yap said a total of 127 residents from the residential area asked for his assistance.
He said the residents had complained that the construction of the said 30-metre tower appeared to have contravened the Minimum Setback Requirements for Telecommunication Structures in Sarawak as it does not comply with the minimum 15 metre requirement to two (2) parcels of private residential land (whose consent from landowners have not been obtained) and the minimum 10 metre requirement to the nearest commercial building.
Yap said the residents had also opposed the construction of the said telecommunication tower due to its radiation health hazard and the safety aspect due to the threat of lightning striking the substation arising from the height of the telecommunication tower.
According to Yap, the protest of the affected residents had been conveyed to Sarawak Multimedia Authority and highlighted to the Ministry of Urban Development & Natural Resources Sarawak (State Planning Authority), Land & Survey Department and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
Yap is always ready to highlight and try to resolve issues of public interest affecting the community through the relevant authorities. SPCB is also ever ready to lend a helping hand to anyone facing problems or who comes across problems of public interest but does not know how to deal with it.
