MIRI: A total of 143 persons registered as blood donors with 113 successfully donating their blood during an International Volunteers Day Blood Donation Campaign here on Sunday.
The campaign was jointly organised by the Malaysian Red Cresent (MRC) Miri Branch blood donor recruitment team and Miri Piasau Community Welfare Association.
The day-long campaign which was held at the MRC Miri branch premises saw 13 first time donors.
Apart from helping to sustain blood stocks in Miri, the International Volunteer Day blood donation campaign also serves to recognise the contributions of volunteers.
The value and impact of volunteers is important every day of the year, but a special day, December 5 is set aside by the United Nations each year to mark the contribution of volunteers in making the world a better place.
This year’s theme is “The Power of Collective Action”. It promotes the concept that when individuals and organisations come together we can have a bigger positive impact, such as in the blood donation campaigns.
Cr Karambir Singh, chairman of the Blood Donation Recruitment Team, thanked the good collaboration between MRC Miri Branch and many Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) for the ongoing blood donations in Miri.
The public can contact Karambir at 0168785500 for information about the location of blood donations in Miri City.
