Over 100 mission schools get Unifor grants totalling RM14mil

KUCHING: The Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) presented grants totalling RM14mil to 117 mission schools in Kuching, Sibu and Miri.

Minister in-charge Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas presented the cheques at his office here today (Feb 3).

Of the total, RM5.9mil was distributed to 49 schools run by the Kuching Anglican Diocese. On behalf of the schools, Sarawak Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn accepted the cheques from Uggah.

Sarawak Deputy Minister for Local Government and Housing, Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil collected cheques amounting to RM3.7mil for  31 schools under the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kuching.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Snowdan Lawan collected 23 cheques totalling RM2.7mil for 23 schools under the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sibu.

Also collecting the cheques was a representative of Sarawak Minister for Food Industries, Commodities and Regional Development, Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, for the amount of RM826,770 on behalf of seven schools under the Methodist Chinese Annual Conference.

A total of RM826,770 was also given to seven schools run by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Miri. The cheques were collected by a representative of Sarawak Minister for Transport, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin.

Also present was Unifor director Datuk Jack Aman.

On Wednesday (Feb 1), Premier Tan Sri Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg presented eight cheques for RM944,880 to eight schools in Kapit.
