SIBU: The SIBUFM Mooncake Festival, held last night (Sept 15) at an open space behind CCK Local Sungai Merah, drew a vibrant crowd of over 1,000 visitors.
The event was officiated by Deputy Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister Michael Tiang Ming Tee, who was represented by Penghulu Ting Tien Huat.
In his speech, Tiang said the Mooncake Festival, also known as the Mid-Autumn Festival, is an important day emphasising the significance of family reunions.
He pointed out that the Mid-Autumn celebration holds profound significance in the hearts of the Chinese community, symbolising family unity and the reverence of the full moon.
“In addition to admiring the moon, Mid-Autumn Festival traditions include enjoying mooncakes, carrying lanterns, and solving lantern riddles.
“These customs have been passed down through generations and continue to be cherished even in the 21st century,” he said.
Tiang, who also serves as the Pelawan Assemblyman, expressed his heartfelt wish that during this festive season, those fortunate enough to have living parents would take a moment to visit or reach out to them, ensuring that they do not experience loneliness during the holidays.
“To show gratitude for our parents’ upbringing, we can also gift them Mid-Autumn Festival treats, allowing them to savour the filial piety of their children and the festive atmosphere,” he added.
