Over 1,000 receive competency certificates at CENTEXS convocation

KUCHING: A total of 1,239 graduates received their competency-based certificates presented by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during the 7th Convocation of Centre For Technology Excellence Sarawak (CENTEXS) here today.

971 of the graduates came from the Industry Academy (IA) while 268 of them were from Digital Academy (DA).

They graduated from 39 programmes with focus areas in industry of digital, oil and gas, electrical, construction, smart and precision farming, fashion technology, textile and heritage, hospitality, and tourism, with these programmes both nationally and internationally certified by industry leaders, including Schlumberger (SLB), TWI CSWIP, Huawei, EON Reality, Keysight, and others.

CENTEXS chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohd Morshidi Abdul Ghani said CENTEXS was aligning its training towards a greener future to meet the needs of energy industry as envisioned by the Premier.

“Therefore, CENTEXS is taking pro-active approach to understand and search for industry needs and to help them progress by supplying talent, and train them to fulfil the needs of the green energy development of Sarawak.

“In understanding the green energy industry and related trainings, it is important of equipping our local talents with relevant hands-on trainings to enable seamless integration into industry workforce.

“CENTEXS under Digital Academy is offering Certificate in Smart Solar Photovoltaic (PV), Certificate in Green Mobility and Storage, and Certificate in Green Hydrogen programmes in collaboration with Huawei and Solarvest,” he added.

He also shared that with all that they had just launched in CENTEXS Green Energy Lab with state-of-the-art facilities, which are for trainings and testbeds, and now they were also talking to Japanese firm who has been working with SBC to prepare training modules in the aviation fuel from migro algae to prepare CENTEXS ahead.

“In addition to this, we are in the midst of collaborating with Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia, which they are also present with us here today, and with this collaboration, CENTEXS would be compliant to SEDA existing learning syllabus and together we could drive new solar markets and opportunities in the solar industry.

“CENTEXS also aims to spearhead precision agriculture training and testbed in Sarawak by enhancing and complimenting the training with technology towards achieving better efficiency and yield production,” he said.

Meanwhile, CENTEXS also presented two best student awards to outstanding students, Muhamad Fahri Izzad Muhamad Yakup from Digital Academy, and Faizatul Asyiqin Abdul Rahman from Industry Academy, to recognise their leadership qualities, their commitments, good characters and excellent academic results.

With 64 digital and technical programmes related to respective industries and entrepreneurship currently provided, CENTEXS has provided and gave new hope to the youths who want to earn a high income with technology training.

As of July 2022, CENTEXS has achieved 94 per cent employment rate with graduates working across industries in Sarawak, in Malaysia or internationally.

CENTEXS also had alumni graduates who have been employed by Schlumberger (SLB), Sarawak Metro, Sarawak Energy, Taiyo Yuden Sdn Bhd, Hereema Marine Contractors (HMC) Singapore, Dayang Enterprise Holdings Berhad and Press Metal Bintulu.

Among those present at the ceremony were CENTEXS chief executive officer Syeed Mohd Hussein Wan Abdul Rahman, CENTEXS board members, academic members from training partners, and CENTEXS instructors and staff.
