KUCHING: Over 1,000 people took part in the Malaysian Medical Association-Section Concerning House Officers, Medical Officers and Specialists (MMA-SCHOMOS) Sarawak’s Charity Health Run 2020 despite the rain at Saradise here yesterday.

The run, themed ‘Care for the Elderly’, aimed to promote the health of senior citizens and was organised by MMA through its SCHOMOS section.

Some doctors, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), government agencies, corporate companies and members of the public participated in the run.

Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian was present to flag off the 10km and 3km run at 6.30am.

“The government doctors have gone beyond their duties to organise this run; whatever fund raised will go back to the community,” the minister said.

“Part of the proceeds collected from this run will specifically benefit Home of Peace (home for the elderly) at Jalan Landeh and other NGOs that we identify along the way” she said.

She added that more importantly, the objective of the run was to raise awareness of senior citizens’ health needs.

“The elderly are definitely a big part of society and we need to ensure their overall health and wellbeing are taken care of,” she said.
