KAPIT: More than 200 participants from all walks of life took part in a Community Run programme organised by Kapit District Council (KDC) in collaboration with Kapit Lions Club and Sports and Recreation Club of the council (Kadico) held at the foyer of the council’s building along Jalan Kubu here yesterday morning.
Officiating at the flag off ceremony was Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing who is also the state Infrastructure and Ports Development minister.
Also present at the function were Wilson Nyabong Ijang (GPS-Pelagus) and wife; KDC walikota Lating Minggang; Kapit Resident Nyurak Keti; Kapit deputy Resident Galong Luang; Kapit district officer Cerisologo Sabut; Bukit Mabong district officer Douglas Pungga; KDC secretary Jabang Juntan; KDC deputy walikota Watson Awan; KDC assistant secretary Kelimbik Sibat; KDC, Song and Belaga councillors; head of the various government departments; and community leaders.
Prior to the run, the participants engaged in an aerobic exercise which was led by Kumpulan Tari Kapit.
The run was divided into two main categories ― Men and Ladies ― open to all ages and with no admission fee.
A student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Kapit 2, Victor Sullok came in first place for the men’s category, while Sarawak administrative officer Nuim Lium and Loh Leong Hua came in second and third place respectively.
In the ladies category, Cindy Lim took the first place while Hu Min Ming and Christina Limpa took second and third respectively.
The winners received trophies and prizes in the form of electrical goods while other participants were given a medal each.
Coinciding with the run was a competition for recycled waste collection whereby each participant was given a plastic bag for them to collect recycled items along the route of the run.
The winner of the recycled waste collection competition was Mohd Ajah who managed to collect 13.2kg of items. Hampers were received by winners from the first to fifth places.
The competition saw a total of 60kg of wastes collected that was later disposed off at the council’s dumping ground at Jalan Bukit Goram.
Masing proceeded to officiate at the launching of Kapit Riverfront in the evening.
One of the activities held during the launching was the popular powerboat race.
