KUCHING: A total of 235 participants joined the second series of Flashmob G2 Run 2.0, organised by Baba Sarawak at Kuching Waterfront yesterday.
Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah officiated at the event.
“I hope through this programme, the people of Sarawak can practise cleanliness etiquette and also protect the environment.
“It is important to educate our young ones to practise cleanliness,” she said adding that early childhood education centres should inculcate the values of cleanliness among children.
“The practise can start when the children come to school clean and leave the school clean, too. For example, when a child uses the restroom, he/she will leave the restroom clean so that when the other children come in, they will repeat the practice cycle.”
Fatimah said the programme would be held on a state-level next year.
It was introduced as a pilot programme in 14 schools last year and the number of participating schools was increased to 200 this year. It is aimed at increasing awareness on the value of environmental education and cleanliness in the community.
The president of Association of Registered Childcare Providers Sarawak (PPBS), Ng Lee Boon said the objective of Flash Mob G2 Run 2.0 was to create an awareness of ‘Bersih Awal Bersih Akhir’ (Baba) in children, parents, early childhood educators and the community.
“This programme is also to promote the value of environmental education by incorporating the practise of cleanliness.
“The practise should start from a young age,” she said.
The FlashMob G2 Run is a combination of FlashMob 2.0 and G2 Run 2019. Its main objective is to encourage participants to do ‘plogging’ ― picking up rubbish while walking or running along the Kuching Waterfront.
