Over 2,000 boxes of water supplied to drought-hit areas in Bintulu

KUCHING: The Welfare Department (JKM) Bintulu branch yesterday distributed a total of 2,145 boxes of drinking water to several areas affected by current drought.

According to a press statement, to date the distribution has been carried out in three areas, namely, Bintulu, Sebauh and Tatau where there are seven settlements and Sekolah Kebangsaan Serupai, Tatau.

For remote areas which require a lot of assistance, JKM has sought assistance from the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM).

According to Bintulu JKM officer, Taddy Ajin, many areas in Bintulu have been affected by the drought.

He said JKM has made proactive measures to ensure that water was provided quickly by making sure that all requests are managed in accordance with the defined assistance scheme.
