KUCHING: The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received a total of 2,794 emergency calls about fire from Jan 1 to April 16 this year.
According to the statistics released, 1,004 (36 pct) calls were about fire while 1,697 (61 pct) calls were about rescue and the remaining 88 (3 pct) calls were about special tasks.
Miri recorded the highest number of emergency calls (412) followed by Kuching (164) and Sibu (154).
Losses totaling RM11,216,411 have been recorded as of April 16 while property saved amounted to RM97,088,717.
There were also calls made regarding bushfires followed by fires involving residential homes.
Majority of the fires involved electrical equipment overload and negligence.
Three persons also died in fires while 14 persons were injured based on the statistics given.
Three cases involving longhouse fires were recorded by Bomba, affecting 637 people.
