MIRI: The flexibility in education system allows creativity in teaching, hence encouraging students to be more interactive during their learning process.

In this respect, Minister for Education, Science and Technological Research, Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong disclosed that it was time for the existing education system to change.

“Now it is time for you (referring to teachers present at the Sarawak English Language Education Symposium or SELES 2018) to get your students to talk with confidence rather than following the old days,” he said while delivering the closing speech at SELES 2018 held at Mega Hotel here on Wednesday.

He also emphasised that in order to encourage creativity in teaching and learning, the education system need to be flexible.

“All the schools in the country can learn from the flexible education system in Finland.

“The schools in Finland have been flourishing in freedom and flexibility in its teaching whereby students are not taught about traditional subjects or subject-based teaching but learning to solve real-life problems, assisted by their teachers,” said Manyin.

Hence, he reminded teachers to be passionate in teaching.
