KUCHING: Over 300 people attended the 40th-day tahlil ceremony for former Head of State, the late Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud on yesterday (31 March) evening.
Organised by Ragad Foundation, the ceremony was held at the Masjid Jamek Negeri.
It was attended by distinguished guests, including head of departments, and officials from the Sarawak Islamic Council (SIC) as well as from the state Mosque Welfare Trust Board (LAKMNS).
Children from the Sarawak Orphans’ Welfare Board (PERYATIM) and mosque visitors also joined in the ceremony.
The tahlil event began with the recitation of Al-Fatihah, followed by Surah Yaasin, and tahlil prayer led by the state deputy Imam Besar, Ustaz Mohammad Ihsan Haidzir.
After the recitation of Yaasin and Tahlil, the event continued with a breaking-of-fast ceremony before the Maghrib, Isyak, and Tarawih prayers.
Meanwhile, the event also witnessed contributions from the Ragad Foundation to orphanages presented by National Population and Family Development Board chairperson Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim.
Taib passed away at age 87 at a private hospital in Kuala Lumpur on Feb 21, 2024.
