KUCHING: A total of 35,312 students in Sarawak are sitting for their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2020 examination, which runs from Monday (Feb 22) to March 25.
These candidates are taking their examination at 294 centres in the state, overseen by 2,566 invigilators and 226 area supervisors.
Sarawak Education Department director Dr Norisah Suhaili said of the total number, 33,064 students or 93.63 per cent were from government schools (SMK).
“361 or 1.02 per cent of the students are from schools under other agencies besides the Ministry of Education,” she said on Monday.
Norisah added that 942, or 2.67 per cent of students, were from private schools, and the remaining 945 or 2.68 per cent were private candidates.
She advised candidates to remain focused and continue to revise the subjects.
“Also, remember to observe the standard operating procedures at all times when in the school compound.”
She stressed that it was important that students look after their health to ensure their safety and those around them.
The candidates were supposed to sit for their SPM 2020 examination last year, which would normally be held yearly in November, but it had to be postponed to January this year and then to this month due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which had forced schools to temporarily close.
