KAPIT: More than 400 community leaders in Kapit District comprising Temenggong, Pemanca, Penghulu, Tuai Rumah, Kapitan and committee members of Village Security and Development Committees (JKKK) attended a one-day leadership seminar organised by Kapit District Office at the civic centre here recently.

The seminar among others was to brief the community leaders and members of the JKKKs on their roles and responsibility as grassroots leaders.

Kapit District Officer Cerisologo Sabut spoke on the roles and functions of JKKK apart from briefings on Wildlife Ordinance, Adat Iban and crime prevention by by officials from the relevant authorities.

Officiating at the function, Kapit MP Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi urged community leaders to keep abreast with the rapid changes brought about by Information Communication Technology (ICT).

He commended Kapit District Office for its initiative in helping the local community leaders keep abreast with the current socio-political development taking place in the country.

He advised JKKKs to plan development programmes for their respective longhouses.

At the function Nanta announced a grant of RM30, 000 for Kapit District Office to organise the programme.

Also present were Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang and Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat.
