KUCHING: The statewide sanitation exercise continued on day eight of its operations, with the disinfection of several areas to stem the spread of Covid-19 yesterday.

State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) assistant operations director Tiong Ling Hii said the disinfection work in Kuching was carried out with the cooperation of Kuching North City Commission (DBKU), Kuching South City Council (MBKS) and the Health Ministry (MOH).

According to him, work started at 9am to disinfect frequently visited public spaces, which included Hui Sing Hawker Centre, Tua Pek Kong Temple, Carpenter Street and Ewe Hai Street.

“The work in the morning at the said locations involved 41 personnel from the Bomba, MBKS, DBKU and MOH.

“As of 1pm today, the department has conducted over 50 sanitation operations in public areas since Mar 30.

“And the figure will increase to 53 operations later in the evening,” he said when contacted.

Tiong said the disinfection of a bus ferrying passengers who landed at Kuching International Airport (KIA) from Kuala Lumpur at a quarantine centre, at Sungai Apong Market as well as at a farm epicentre in Batu Kawa, would be carried out later in the evening.
