KUCHING: About 587 media practitioners based in Sarawak will be receiving their Covid-19 jab in the first week of June.
Kuching Division Journalists Association (KDJA) deputy chairman Zulazhar Sheblee said this has been confirmed by National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) coordinating minister Khairy Jamaluddin himself yesterday.
“I hope that the media personnel would continue to be patient while awaiting their turn to be vaccinated.
“For this, I would like to express my gratitude towards Khairy Jamaluddin for understanding the nature of our work.
“We need to go on the ground for news coverage and are constantly at risk of Covid-19 transmission,” he said after Khairy visited the vaccination centre at the Stadium Perpaduan.
The state media vaccination coordinator further explained that the delay in the media’s vaccination was due to technical problems involving the vaccine supply that came in batches instead of a lump sum.
He also added that over five thousand media practitioners nationwide will be vaccinated.
